Stomach cancer often does not have symptoms in the early stages, or they can be vague and non-specific; such as nausea or rapid weight loss. There is no single symptom that exactly pinpoints stomach cancer which therefore requires further evaluation and testing for a correct diagnosis. Blood in the Stool is a symptom of stomach cancer; however, you can’t always actually see blood that may be in the stool. Tests like the fecal occult blood test (FOBT) detect blood in the stool. This symptom can also be related to other types of cancer, such as colon cancer. It is also associated with less severe health problems, such as hemorrhoids and anal fissures. Abdominal Pain is one of the most common stomach cancer symptoms. Most people think that the abdomen and stomach are the same; in reality the stomach is an organ within the abdomen. Abdominal pain can range from persistently meek discomfort to severe pain. Persistent abdominal pain generally occurs in the upper abdomen area. This is one of the first causes for checking in with your doctor. Persistent Nausea and/or Vomiting aren’t very specific symptoms that can be common among people with stomach cancer. However, it can indicate a [...]

We all go through a snack break in our day to day life and most of the times if you have noticed our break comprise of worlds favorite snack, yes the world’s most favorite snack Potato chips, this is what it is called, but we all forget one very crucial point while snacking on potato chips and that is the amount of calories it adds to our health. So what causes this weight gain and calorie mayhem in Potato chips, it’s basically two core ingredients namely: the carbohydrate factor the fat factor The carbohydrate factor mainly causes the body storage energy sources to replenish which is to some extent positive but after added consumption it causes this extra energy content and eventually weight gain. The second factor that is the fat factor causes weight gain because potato chips mainly are deep fried and oily foods are main source for added cholesterol and fat which in turn causes weight gain. So whats the right way of consuming this very delicious snack ? The answer lies in the consumption of this snack in the right quantity and utilization through exercise does not cause as much hazardous effects to health as it can otherwise. [...]

Back pain is very common in women during their pregnancies, especially prior to giving birth. Some lower back pain is normal during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester. However, serious chronic back pain is a problem and it is recommended to seek proper treatment to prevent the pain, as there are strong possibilities it may continue even after the birth. While 70% of all pregnant women suffer some form of back pain, majority women have chronic back pain to begin with. If a woman has a back pain condition prior to becoming pregnant, the pregnancy could make the pre-existing pain even worse. Here are some of the reasons why pregnant women suffer from back pain: Change in Center of Gravity: During pregnancy, especially in the later stages, the lower back is pulled forward by the extra weight and mass in a woman’s abdomen. The distribution of added weight is almost all forward, not centered over a woman’s pelvis. This change puts huge stress on the lower spine and especially the lower back muscles. This cause is especially apparent in the third trimester. Poor Posture: It is observed in many women that their posture changes when they are pregnant. The changes [...]

Loss of appetite or Anorexia is described as a loss of appetite or simply a lack of will and/or desire to eat. This sudden loss of appetite is found in cancer patients. People who experience appetite loss will face sudden weight loss due to decreased energy consumption. The body also becomes weaker due to consumption of inadequate calories. Due to this, the body won’t be as able tolerate cancer therapies. As body weight decreases, chronic disease known as cachexia sets in, and a general failure to thrive may make it more difficult to fight off illness and infection. Anorexia is common in cancer patients with reported incidence between 15% and 40%. Primary anorexia is especially prevalent in patients with advanced tumor growth, and is frequently a side effect of cancer treatments. Early symptoms may remain undiagnosed sometimes, or are covered by a more generalized wasting of the body from chronic disease (cachexia). It is normal for a patient to consume less energy when not as active. It is also natural to lose interest in food when individuals are seriously ill. However, it is essential in anorexic patients to consider whether the loss of appetite is the result of a natural [...]

In the previous article, we overviewed the importance and prevalence of Osteoporosis. Today, we’ll look at a tricky aspect of Osteoporosis which makes it a silent killer: its symptoms. You may not be aware, but Osteoporosis can be present without any symptoms for decades as it doesn’t show any signs or symptoms of its presence till there are any bone fractures. Moreover, some osteoporotic fractures may escape detection for years when they do not cause symptoms. Therefore, patients may not be aware of their osteoporosis until they suffer a painful fracture. FUN FACT: Normal bone is composed of protein, collagen, and calcium; all of which give a bone its strength and overall density. Bones that are affected by osteoporosis can break (or fracture) with relatively minor injury that normally would not cause a bone to fracture. The fracture can be either in the form of cracking (i.e. a hip fracture) or collapsing (i.e. a compression fracture of the vertebrae of the spine). The spine, hips, ribs, and wrists are common areas of bone fractures from osteoporosis although osteoporosis-related fractures can occur in almost any skeletal bone. The foremost symptom associated with fractures while suffering Osteoporosis is severe pain; the location [...]

Osteoporosis is a disease caused by low bone mass, decrease in the density of bone, and loss of bone tissue that may lead to weak and fragile bones. Typically Osteoporosis is a condition that frail elderly women develop. However, the damage from osteoporosis begins much earlier in life. As men and women reach peak bone density at approximately 25 years of age, it is important to build strong bones by then, so that they will remain strong later in life. Adequate calcium intake is an essential part of building strong bones. Patients suffering from osteoporosis face an increased risk for fractured (broken) bones, particularly in the hip, spine, and wrist bones. Osteoporosis may also result in abnormally porous bone that is compressible, like a sponge. This disorder of the skeleton weakens the bone and results in frequent fractures (breaks & cracks) in the bones. Primary reasons of having osteoporosis are lack of adequate Vitamin D and deficiency of adequate calcium intake in the human body. Women, especially those that also pass the stages of menopause, are more prone to the disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared osteoporosis as a great threat to women, calling it a silent killer [...]
